Is there any way to quickly check if a job posting is legitimate, or if the company is just creating these positions in order to collect resumes or bump their numbers? I'm so tired of having to research the company, actual site and recruiters who reach out to verify everything. Then reformating my resume everytime I apply for a job, hoping it passes all the rules with the correct keywords. Spending at least an hour doing all of this for every job, only to be ghosted or get that infamous email. "Thank you for applying, but we've decided to go with another candidate." I'm in a love /hate  relationship with AI. So many changes both positive and negative with this new wave of technology. Anyone else out here feel the same frustration? Advice from those who have actually found a job through LinkedIn/indeed or any other platform would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, it's Richard here. I hope you're well. I really understand your frustration. The online job hunt can feel like a full-time job in itself, especially with scams and fake listings out there. Here are a few quick ways to check if a posting is legitimate before spending time applying:

1️⃣ Research the company fast

  • Go to the company’s official website and look for the exact job title on their “Careers” page. If the role isn’t listed there, be cautious.

  • Check LinkedIn. See if employees list the company as their workplace and whether the recruiter contacting you is genuinely connected to them.

2️⃣ Watch for red flags

  • Generic job descriptions with no details about responsibilities or requirements.

  • Requests for personal information (bank, ID numbers) early in the process.

  • Email addresses that don’t match the company domain (e.g., Gmail or Yahoo instead of @company.com).

3️⃣ Use employer review sites

  • Glassdoor and Indeed reviews can reveal patterns about fake or high-turnover jobs.

4️⃣ Streamline your applications

  • Keep a master ATS-friendly CV and just tailor the top 15% (headline, key skills, and first bullet points). That way, you’re not rewriting from scratch every time.

  • Tools like Jobscan or CVMadeEasy (my service) https://cvmadeeasy.co.uk/ can help check if your CV has the right keywords for the ATS and save hours of guesswork.

5️⃣ Stay encouraged
Rejection (and ghosting) is, sadly, very common — but you only need one “yes.” Focus on networking too: connecting with hiring managers and joining relevant LinkedIn groups often leads to faster responses than just applying online.

You’re not alone — many feel the same love/hate with AI. It’s speeding up hiring but also flooding the market with noise. Stay consistent, and use the tools that genuinely help you, not waste time.

Keep going. You’re doing the right things by questioning and refining your process.

Best wishes,
Richard

@richard-mcmunn Thank you Richard, all very very advice. I didn't think about using Glassdoor, but I will definitely look into that, as well as your resume service.
