I would like guidance on how to answer why I choose this hospital and why they should select me in their residency program ?

Great question. This is one of the most important residency interview questions, and the way you answer it will set the tone for the rest of your interview. Let me give you a structure you can use to stand out.
1. Why you chose this hospital
Show the panel you’ve done your research and that your choice is deliberate. Focus on:

Reputation & training: Highlight their teaching environment, specialist exposure, or patient care standards.

Learning opportunities: Mention specific facilities, rotations, or research opportunities they offer that align with your interests.

Values & culture: Hospitals want to know you’ll fit in, so connect their mission/values with your own.
👉 Example:
“I chose this hospital because of its outstanding reputation for both clinical excellence and medical education. I am particularly drawn to your emphasis on multidisciplinary teamwork and research opportunities, which perfectly align with my career goal of becoming not just a skilled clinician but also a doctor who contributes to advancing patient care.”
2. Why they should choose you
This is where you highlight what you bring to the table. Keep it concise and powerful by focusing on three things:

Clinical skills & knowledge (you can perform effectively under supervision).

Teamwork & communication (essential in a hospital environment).

Commitment & resilience (residency is demanding – they want to see you can handle it).
