Hey! I did mine last month, band 4 admin in NHS trust. They asked me things like “Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult colleague” and “how do you prioritise tasks when it’s busy”.

I used STAR method but kept it short, don’t waffle. And know the NHS values, they LOVE that.

Agree with above ^ Also remember to have examples where you made a mistake and learned from it. I panicked when they asked me that but I blagged it lol. Still got the job though!

Hi @healthcarehopeful88. First of all, welcome to the forum!

I know how stressful it can feel before an NHS interview. Competency-based means they will ask about past situations to see if you have the skills and values for the role. Common examples include:

  • Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team to achieve a goal

  • Describe a situation where you had to deal with a challenging patient or colleague

  • Give me an example of how you prioritised tasks under pressure

As others have already said, use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. Focus most on the Actions you took and the positive Results you achieved.

Think about examples where you solved a problem, supported someone in need, improved a process or delivered excellent service.

This video will help you prepare: NHS Band 4 Interview Questions & Answers

You will be fine if you prepare a few strong examples in advance. Let me know if you need any further help! 🙂
