Hi Richard,

I hope this message finds you well.

Which of the below questions should I prepare for, or are they all the same? It would be difficult to know which of the questions the hiring manager will ask in a job interview. Thank you for your continued help and support.

  • Why Did You Apply for This Role?
  • Why Do you Want this job?
  • Why Do You Want to Work here?
  • Why Should We Hire You?
  • What can you bring to the role?
  • What makes you stand out from other candidates?

Kind regards

Sabrina

Hi Sabrina, good question. They’re not all the same, but they do overlap. The good news is you can prepare three core answers and you’ll be covered for all of them.

Why did you apply / why do you want this job?

This is about your motivation and fit for the duties. Link your skills and experience to the role, plus a genuine reason you want it.

Why do you want to work here?

This is about the employer. Mention something specific about the organisation (values, reputation, service, culture, growth) and why it suits you.

Why should we hire you / what can you bring / what makes you stand out?

This is your “value” answer. Give 3 strong strengths, a quick proof point (a result), and finish with confidence.

If you would like me to write answers for you based on your CV/resume and the role you are applying for, use this page:

Hi Richard, thank you for your reply 🙂

When you say that I would be covered for all of the questions, do you mean that I can combine all three answers for each question in an interview?

In your You tube videos, you advised everyone to give at least 3 reasons for this type of question.

Kind regards

Sabrina

Hi Sabrina, good question. Don’t combine all three every time.

Think of it like this: have one “master” answer with 3 parts (role fit, company fit, your value), then emphasise the part that matches the exact question.

So yes, still give 3 reasons, but keep them relevant:

If they ask “Why this role?” – 3 reasons focused on the job duties and your skills.

If they ask “Why this company?” – 3 reasons focused on the employer.

If they ask “Why should we hire you?” – 3 reasons focused on what you bring, with a quick proof point.

Richard
