Hi there, thanks for posting, and I am more than happy to help you. Please can you answer these 3 questions so I can tailor my advice for your resume and cover letter:

1. What specific skills did you gain from your EHR program? Please list the top 5 you feel you gained.

2. Do you already have any hands-on experience (such as externships, volunteer work, or projects) with EHR systems that we can showcase in your resume and cover letter?

3. What do you know so far about Honor Health Hospital’s values and the qualities they look for in entry-level candidates? (This can help us tailor your cover letter to align perfectly with their expectations.)

Let me know the answers to these questions so I can help you 🙂

Best wishes,

Richard

Good morning from Arizona, USA  Richard.

  1. l have learned a variety of technical, administrative, and communication skills, including EHR management, HIPAA compliance, medical terminology, data management, patient charting, and billing and coding fundamentals. I have also developed essential soft skills such as analytical thinking, attention to detail, and communicationto ensure accurate and secure patient records.

  1. I came from a background of Document Record Specialist In Construction and The Military Industries, (communication Unit). I strive to grow and learn in the Electronic Health Record industry in general, and the HOSPITALS to be specific; to contribute to the community along with other Allies Health Professional to get accurate and straight records.

Honor Health is hiring at an entry level for Registration and Admission Specialist roles; and HER specialists.

  1. HonorHealth's core values, often referred to as the ICARE values:

Innovation, Collaboration, Respect, and Empathy.         These values align with HonorHealth's mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities they serve and their vision to be the partner of choice as they transform healthcare.

I would like to share with you in this forum that In practice  to an answer for one of your question I respect mostly – “Why should they hire me?”

The fact is that they hold great Mission, Vision and Core Values and this is why I want to work for them. Honor Health Florence Hospital hold it’s values at real times. I’ve experienced as a patient from time to time for seeing specialists if I need. e

In the past, I have experienced an excellent patient care and Professionalism, and the atmosphere was lovely at there facilities around the valley.  Second, I would love to work for them and give them my greatest next fifteen years and over. And finally, I think I would be a good fit with them if I get the opportunity and I am saying this with confident -  I served great customers most my years working in records department of top-notch clients. I am confident that I can align wonderfully in their organization and serve patients with lots of empathy and BEST CARE.

May you all have a great day.

I will be practicing more techniques with you, Thank you very much.

G-D bless your Richard for your coaching and for keeping me and others sharp!

Question 2 addendum:

I have a year of externship in the hospital as a CNA, but it's in a different country

During the past 3 months, I've practiced 100ds of assignments on SimChart Simulation backround, and learned about Epic for the EHR specialists. Epic is what Honor Health Hospital uses as their EHR Program, and I can't wait to learn it from scratch.

Thank you 🙂

Hey, thank you for the information, and I hope the sun is shining in Arizona! I've been gardening all day and have just finished. 🤩

Thank you for sharing your background and interest in applying for the entry-level EHR Specialist position at HonorHealth. I think you’re in a really strong position to create a brilliant resume, even though you’re transitioning from a different industry. Here are my top tips for you:

🔑 Tips for Writing a Brilliant Resume for HonorHealth

1. Start with a Strong Summary Statement
Instead of a generic “objective,” open your resume with a statement highlighting your transferable skills, your passion for healthcare, and your alignment with HonorHealth’s values. This will immediately grab attention.

2. Highlight Your Technical & Healthcare Skills
Create a “Core Skills” section and include keywords from the job description. For you, these could be:

  • EHR management

  • HIPAA compliance

  • Medical terminology

  • Patient charting & data management

  • Billing & coding fundamentals

  • Communication & collaboration

  • Attention to detail

This ensures your resume is ATS-friendly (Applicant Tracking System).

3. Emphasize Transferable Experience
Your background in document record management (construction industry) and in the military communication unit gives you excellent transferable skills. Present these in a way that relates to healthcare:

  • Managing sensitive documentation with accuracy and compliance.

  • Following strict security protocols (similar to HIPAA).

  • Collaborating with teams and ensuring data integrity under pressure.

This shows you already have the discipline, confidentiality, and precision that hospitals need.

4. Align with HonorHealth’s ICARE Values
HonorHealth’s values are Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empathy. Try to weave these into your bullet points. For example:

  • “Collaborated with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy of records.”

  • “Maintained confidentiality and demonstrated respect for sensitive information.”

  • “Adapted to new systems quickly, showing innovation and continuous learning.”

5. Add an Education & Training Section
List your training and coursework, such as:

  • Billing & Coding Fundamentals

  • HIPAA training

  • Medical terminology courses

  • Any EHR systems training

If you’re currently taking or planning an online course, write “In Progress.” Recruiters love seeing commitment to learning.

6. Keep Your “Why HonorHealth” Message for the Cover Letter
Your personal story about being a patient and experiencing their values is powerful. Keep that for your cover letter rather than your resume. The resume should stay skills/results-focused, while the cover letter explains why you want to work specifically for HonorHealth.

7. Keep the Resume Clean & Professional

  • One to two pages in length.

  • Clear sections: Summary | Core Skills | Experience | Education/Training.

  • Use bullet points that start with action verbs (e.g., managed, maintained, ensured, collaborated).

  • Tailor keywords to match the job posting. If you have a copy of the job description, read it carefully and cross-match keywords and phrases.

✅ Final Thought:
You don’t need direct hospital experience to stand out. By reframing your past roles in healthcare-friendly language, highlighting your technical knowledge, and demonstrating your commitment to HonorHealth’s ICARE values, you’ll create a resume that looks tailor-made for this role.

I’m confident that if you follow this approach, you’ll impress the recruiters at HonorHealth.

Good luck — you’ve got this! Let me know if you need any further advice of help.

Richard

P.S. No problem if you feel confident writing the resume and cover letter yourself, but if not, I do offer a service whereby I can write it for you. More details here: https://cvmadeeasy.co.uk/
