Hi Richard, so like I have a magnet school interview coming up at J.P. Starks Stem for 7th grade in Dallas ISD, and I would like you to give me some advice on what the best things to say or like best thing to do at a magnet school interview, and like you know, give me some advice. Also, a video idea I may have for you is to make a video about school interviews .
Hi @protikbiswas-pb,
That’s brilliant news, well done on getting an interview for a magnet school. J.P. This sounds like a great opportunity, and it’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous.
Here are some simple but powerful tips to help you prepare.
First, be ready to explain why you want to attend a STEM magnet school. Talk about your interest in subjects like science, technology, engineering, or maths, and how you enjoy learning, problem-solving, or building things. Be genuine and enthusiastic.
Second, be yourself and let your curiosity and attitude show. Magnet school interviews are not about being perfect. They want students who are motivated, respectful, willing to work hard, and excited to learn.
Third, prepare examples of:
-
A subject you enjoy and why
-
A project, class, or activity you are proud of
-
A challenge you faced at school and how you handled it
Keep your answers clear and honest.
Fourth, practise speaking calmly. If you do not understand a question, it is absolutely fine to ask them to repeat it or give you a moment to think.
Fifth, finish by asking a simple question if you are given the chance, for example:
“What do students enjoy most about this school?”
or
“What advice would you give to a new student starting here?”
That shows confidence and interest.
A couple of questions so I can help you even more:
-
Will the interview be in person or online?
-
Is it a student-only interview, or will your parents be there too?
And thank you for the video idea. A school interview video is a great suggestion and I really appreciate you sharing it.
Best of luck, you’ve got this.
Richard
