Hello Richard,
I had an interview for the position of a correctional peace officer and this is their feedback.
"Thank you for your email regarding the interview that you had partaken for the Correctional Peace Officer position with the Government of Alberta.
As per to your request to obtain additional feedback, please note that your interview assessment was taken into full consideration by the interview panel.
Upon further review, the interview was conducted to assess your competencies related to the position and how your knowledge, skills, abilities, and other attributes would align with the role itself.
The interview included questions that assessed both behavioural and technical abilities.
After reviewing it was determined that the overall responses to the questions that were provided did not meet the criteria to move forward in the next stage of the recruitment process unfortunately at this time.
The general feedback provided by the interviewers was determined based on included the following factors:
- Responses provided did not accurately address or relate to the questions that were asked.
- Reponses did not follow STAR method (See link below)
- Responses to questions could have been answered providing more detail and context.
The interviewers made their decision based on these factors. Although your application may not have been successful at this time, you will be eligible to re-apply again after 6 months".
I would be very grateful if I can get tips on how to ace this interview.
Thank you.
Hello and welcome to the forum! Thank you for sharing your feedback. From what they have said, the key areas to improve are:
-
Make sure every answer directly addresses the question being asked
-
Use the STAR method properly (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and spend most time on the Action you took and the Result you achieved (make sure it is always a positive end result!)
-
Provide enough detail and context so the panel can clearly see your skills and suitability
For a Correctional Peace Officer interview, you will need strong examples that show you can stay calm under pressure, follow rules and procedures, work in a team, communicate clearly, and handle difficult or challenging situations.
My top tip is to prepare 6 to 8 detailed STAR examples in advance. Practise saying them out loud so they are clear, relevant, and confident.
I have two great videos on my CareerVidz YouTube channel that will help you prepare for correctional officer interviews:
1. Correctional Officer Interview Questions & Answers
If you follow the STAR method carefully and focus on showing the actions you personally took, you will be in a much stronger position next time. Do you have another interview lined up?
Richard
